What is Crowdless?
Crowdless is a free platform with global coverage that helps people with social distancing. It provides real-time data on how crowded supermarkets are so that people can avoid crowds, choose the least busy place and best time to visit. The platform uses a combination of existing data sources, such as Google Maps and Google Places data, in combination with crowdsourced data.
The Crowdless app is now available on iOS and Android. A new version of the app was launched on 12thJune with new functionalities that provide localised information on how crowded places are. Crowdless was launched in April 2020 and currently has over 60,000 users. The largest number of users are in the UK, Germany, and Spain.
The platform is developed by UK-based social enterprise Lanterne, whose mission is to use data to improve safety and promote economic development. Crowdless is part of the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre United Kingdom, Oxford University’s Oxford Foundry and the London School of Economics and Political Science’s Generate.
